Kenwood: spring 1968.

Two more from the same encounter that produced this one:

Clearly taken around the Time Of The Two Virgins Evening Time, as it isn't known.
Further evidence that John was indeed accommodating towards Ver Fannage (give or take the odd "Piss Off" or other "incident"), which is a theme around here, and about time too.
More thanks to Mark L.

  1. John still with flower power-wear on! Love the kaftan. The longer his hair got, the less hippy-ish he dressed. I don't think I've seen many pics of him at this particular stage of hair growth - its longer than Rishikesh but shorter than Two Virgins, so going by my hippyness/hair growth formula, his kaftans weren't long for this world!

  2. Based on the number of pictures posted with John and random fans, it seems like he was remarkably "available". Was it really that easy to get to the front door?

Pictures from this period are virtually non-existent, no?

  3. He was initially more than a little irritated to find people turning up at Kenwood, as it was supposed to be "hidden". However, the address was printed in US fan magazines soon after he moved in, and there was constant fannage outside the gates from then on. After a while the inevitable was accepted, to the extent that he'd leave the gates open, and occasionally even invite fans in to the house itself. See posts passim.

  4. it was very easy to get to kenwood. of course you would have people telling you you couldn't go there, that he wasn't home, etc. but we didn't listen. if the gates were open - which they usually were - you could just walk up to the front door and knock on it. neil and terry could be incredibly nasty to us. luckily, john never said anything awful to me. when i had my two pictures taken with him that never came out in 1968 he looked just like that. he had a long kaftan on, with matching pants. it was light gray. and he had no shoes on, but when i asked if i could have my picture taken with him he said he had to get some shoes and he came back with those indian sandals where your toe is separate from the rest. he put his arm around me. it was a beautiful sunny day. i vividly remember feeling his heartbeat and trying to breathe at the same time as him while my friend fumbled with the camera (like you could forget a moment like that...). i'm no barbra streisand, but i can also sing "memories"... (if i had my cheap boots instamatic, i would have 2 glorious photos with john and his arm around me, but i had a 35mm camera my mother had sent me, and i set it up perfectly and told my friend denise not to touch anything but the shutter, but she turned the lens around and too much sun got into it and all you can see in the photos are white shadows). the only good thing is that it took her forever and it was very lovely to stand in the sun with john's arm around me - oh to be 16 and "in love"! now stop writing and get back to work, lizzie!
